Liverpool FC Player Profiles
Steven Irwin is a versatile Scouser who was promoted to Melwood in July 2008 after nine years at the Academy.
The midfielder cum defender first caught the eye when he featured as a substitute against Manchester United in the 2006 FA Youth Cup final.
From there, he captained the U18s during 2007-08 before joining up with the reserves in West Derby.
Irwin is a player with a bit of everything: nice touch, a fierce tackle and great leadership qualities.
"I would say centre midfield is my best position, just over right-back, " says the Childwall-born youngster.
"I've played in every single position during my time at Liverpool. I actually played in goal once against Wolves. The goalkeeper got injured after 10 minutes. I had loads of saves to make so I'll be pushing Pepe Reina soon!"
Away from the pitch, Irwin is as big a Red as they come. He joined the travelling Kop for his first cup final in 1996 and hasn't missed one since.
